Who Should Take This Course?
This OSHA Online Confined Space Awareness Training course is designed to be used as part of a Confined Space Program for all employees who work around confined spaces.

This course is NOT intended for those workers who are required to enter confined space, as confined space entry training should be done in a classroom session and include sufficient hands-on training and practice.
Per 29 CFR 1910.146(g)(1)
The employer shall provide training so that all employees whose work is regulated by this section acquire the understanding, knowledge, and skills necessary for the safe performance of the duties assigned under this section.The objectives of this course are to meet the Federal OSHA Confined Space Training requirements of 29 CFR 1910.146(g) for the awareness level. This course is also intended to meet any Confined Space training requirements for State OSHA regulations as well.
Per 29 CFR 1910.146(g)(4):
The employer shall certify that the training required by paragraphs (g)(1) through (g)(3) of this section has been accomplished. The certification shall contain each employee's name, the signatures or initials of the trainers, and the dates of training. The certification shall be available for inspection by employees and their authorized representatives.
OSHA Confined Spaces Awareness Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
Written Confined Space Program;
Permit Required Confined Space;
Confined Space Hazards;
Training;
Entrants;
Attendants;
Supervisors;
and Emergencies and Rescue.
Exam:
This course has 1 final exam. The student must complete the course section before attempting the exam.
The final exam consists of 10 questions randomly selected from a large pool of questions. A 70% score or better is required to pass the exam.
If a student does not pass the exam the first time, they may retake the exam as many times as necessary in order to pass.
Additional Training:
This course is designed to help workers meet the OSHA Confined Space Awareness Training requirement as outlined in the OSHA regulation.
This training should be combined with company specific training on the employer's Confined Space Program, including the specific hazards that the employee may face.
This course is NOT intended for those workers who are required to enter confined space, as confined space entry training should be done in a classroom session and include sufficient hands-on training and practice.
Workers must receive additional training, when required by OSHA standards, on the specific hazards of their job.
Training Providers should be used to ensure credibility and augment a company's training program. Therefore, in addition to the training provided by an outside party, a student should receive site-specific training that is supplied by their own company. This training should target the company's unique approach to hazard prevention, including the use of site-specific equipment, health and safety policies, and emergency procedures. As a rule, this company specific training should be well documented.
The bottom line in ALL SITUATIONS is that employers are required to ensure that their employees are adequately trained to do their job.
